INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR ARTS AND CULTURE
(IFAC)

IFAC (International Foundation for Arts and Culture) was founded by Mr Haruhisa Handa as a public service corporation in Tokyo in 1996 to support and fund charitable activities through various events related to music and the arts. International Branch offices have been established in

  • New York
    (IFAC was incorporated as a not-for-profit entity under New York State Law in April 1996)
  • London
    (IFAC was set up as a private limited company by the Registrar for Companies for England and Wales in December 1996, and was registered as a charity on the Central Register of Charities on 7th October 1997), and
  • Perth
    (in Australia, IFAC was established as a charitable trust foundation in November 1997).

Since its establishment, IFAC has grown to an individual and corporate membership of 1,800. IFAC solicits contributions from individuals and corporate sponsors.

  • The goals of the Foundation include:
  • promotion of global cultural exchange;
  • support of arts activities beyond the boundaries of nations, languages and religions; and
  • assistance in the training of artists and musicians.

To achieve these goals, the Foundation undertakes a variety of charitable events and activities. For Japanese arts and culture, IFAC promotes Noh theatre, the starting point for many Japanese performing arts, including kabuki and nichibu or Butoh dance. The Foundation produces a number of free concerts so that young people both in Japan and abroad can appreciate Noh's aesthetic beauty as an art form.
