FRANK
Australasian Performance Ensemble

The generous assistance of the International Foundation for Arts and Culture enabled FRANK: Australasian Performance Ensemble to perform Heavy Metal Hamlet at the Shizouka Spring Arts Festival.

Invited by Tadashi Suzuki, internationally renowned Japanese theatre director and Artistic Director of the Shizuoka Festival, 2000, to perform at the festival, the generous assitance of IFAC with the company's airfares allowed Frank:AAPE to represent Australia at this international event.

Other visiting companies at the festival included Americal director Robert Wilson presenting his solo monologue of Hamlet; Teatro Malandro from Switzerland's production of Lorca's Blood Wedding; director Valery Fokin of Moscow's Meyerhold Centre's Metamorphosis and others.

Japanese NOH theatre and international dance and music were also included in the programme.

Frank:AAPE were invited to show Heavy Metal Hamlet in the Open Air Theatre. This theatre is designed by internationally renowned Japanese architect, Arata Isozaki and is considered to be one of the most beautiful outdoor theatres in the world. Beautiful and challenging!
